Quotes of the Urantia Papers are often slightly wrong, or cite the wrong paragraph. Paste a quote below to check it against the text. Case and punctuation do not matter. A quote must be at least 4 words, and it must come from one paragraph.

Use it from code

POST /quotes/verify runs the same check.
The body has two fields:

The response

This is the real response to the request above:
  • verdict is one of three values:
    • exact: the quote is word for word in the text.
    • close: the same passage, with small changes.
    • not_found: the quote is not in the Urantia Papers.
  • match is the best paragraph: its reference, the exact text that the quote matches, and a similarity from 0 to 1. For not_found, it is the nearest paragraph, or null when none is near.
  • differences lists each place the quote differs, as the quote’s words and the words in the text. An empty side means a word was added or left out.
  • claimedReference says whether the reference you gave exists, and how the quote compares with that paragraph. A right quote with a wrong reference shows as not_found here and exact in verdict.
  • alsoFoundAt lists other references where the quote appears word for word.

How it works

Case and punctuation are ignored, and curly and straight quote marks count as the same. The API finds the paragraphs that share the most words with the quote, then aligns the words of each one with the quote to find the matching passage. A quote must fall within one paragraph. A quote that spans two paragraphs shows as close or not_found.
